This Fourth of July, we decided to take a break from all things digital marketing to more enjoy the holiday. As America’s birthday, there isn’t a much bigger party than the Fourth, with everyone from coast to coast partaking in some great traditions. Whether you’re barbecuing with friends this year or watching fireworks on the beach with your family, you’re sure to be taking part in one of these fantastic Fourth of July traditions.

One of the best traditions, parades are great simply for the sense of community they foster. No matter where you live, there’s likely a parade nearby, because Americans love parades! Everyone, from small children to their grandparents, line up on the streets to watch the fun. Local school bands, floats, horses, dancers, military and more march down the street, handing out candy to children as the party marches on!

More often than not, parades are the kick off point for even larger festivals and fairs. With live music, great food, carnival rides and more, Fourth of July festivals are some of the best places to soak up the Americana and take part in a handful, if not all, of the traditions on our list. Many festivals last the entire weekend, giving you plenty of time to enjoy everything they have to offer.

Whether you get your barbecue from a festival tent or grill it up yourself, one of the best parts of Fourth of July is the food. From pulled pork to grilled chicken, everyone has their favorite barbecue. Brats, burgers, and hot dogs are staples for any Fourth of July party. Rain or shine, there’s no better time than the Fourth to light up the grill and enjoy the company of your friends and family.

Ice Cream

After all that barbecue in the middle of summer, you’re going to need a cold dessert to cool off. What better way that ice cream and popsicles? Go for the bomb-pops for even more red, white, and blue this Independence Day.

Eating Contests

Food, food, and more food. There’s a lot of it involved with Fourth of July parties, but that’s ok considering that most of these parties last an entire day, if not longer. If you feel like you can’t get enough, maybe you should take part your local eating contest. Usually a highlight at the festivals and fairs, eating contests are a true spectacle to watch. If there’s no eating contest close to you, you can usually catch the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating contest on TV.

After a day of eating, drinking, and playing lawn games, there’s no better end to the night than a beautiful fireworks display. Most major cities have one or more fireworks shows the days/week leading up to the Fourth. There are even some on TV if you can’t make it to a live show. Take our advice and leave the explosive entertainment to the professionals this holiday.

Red, White, and Blue Everything

Starting in June and lasting through the holiday weekend, you won’t be able to escape our Nation’s colors at every turn as everything gets coated in red, white, and blue. From lawn pinwheels to table runners, streamers to fireworks, the colors of our flag are the way to go. Make sure you’ve got a good red, white, and blue outfit for the holiday weekend as any other color will stick out like a sore thumb!

Happy Fourth of July!

From all of us here at Opportunity Max, we hope you enjoy the long holiday weekend with friends and family and take part in some or all of these great Fourth of July traditions, Happy Fourth!
